York Region Celebrates Canada Day With Fireworks in Vaughan, Richmond Hill, Markham, Newmarket

Canada Day has a rich history, dating to July 1, 1868, when Canadians were called upon by the Governor General to celebrate the anniversary of the formation of the union of the British North American provinces (aka Canada). In 1879, the Canadian holiday called “Dominion Day” was established to commemorate this great event—with a name change to “Canada Day” in 1982. Today, Canada Day is celebrated throughout Canada with fireworks display. York Region will celebrate Canada's birthday with a dazzling display of light, colour and sound:

Vaughan

On July 1, Canada Day, the sky lights up with fireworks at Canada's Wonderland. The show begins at about 10 p.m. and is included with park admission. It is a sensational presentation of brilliant pyrotechnics, choreographed to memorable music!

Enjoy a full day of fun at the park (over 200 attractions, 66 thrilling rides, Splash Works) or a unique shopping experience in Vaughan Mills - one of the largest shopping centres in Canada. Vaughan Mills is located just across Canada's Wonderland at the southeast corner of Highway 400 and Rutherford Road. Shopping hours for Vaughan Mills this Canada Day are 10am to 7pm. Vaughan residents and visitors are also invited to join City of Vaughan's Family Event with Live Concerts and BBQ (4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.) at Mackenzie Glen District Park. Richmond Hill

Family-friendly Canada Day celebration in Richmond Green Sports Complex and Park at 1300 Elgin Mills Road East. This exciting day hosts the largest municipal fireworks display in Canada. A variety of activities for the entire family are offered:

• King Henry’s Arms Bavarian garden

• Home show
• Live entertainment throughout the day
• Multicultural food pavilion.

Gates open at 11 a.m., Fireworks display at 10 p.m. Admission is FREE with the donation of a non-perishable food item to benefit the Richmond Hill Food Bank.

Help the environment and enjoy a complimentary ride to the Canada Day Celebrations by utilizing the free shuttle bus services. With six shuttle bus locations in Richmond Hill , all buses will travel to Richmond Green and drop off attendees near the main admissions gate by the Richmond Green Sports Complex. Markham

The Town of Markham's Canada Day parade, music and spectacular Fireworks display will take place at Milne Park (McCowan Road just south of Highway 7) at 12:00 p.m. The stage will come alive with hours of live entertainment that reflects and highlights the very best of Markham. Fireworks start at approximately 10 p.m. Free shuttle bus running every 15 min (from 10:00 a.m. to midnight) between Markville Shopping Centre (McCowan and Highway 7) and Milne Park.

You can come to celebrate Canada's birthday in Unionville Village, the site of many buildings older than Canada itself.
